SCUBA Camp is a one week program that includes classroom, pool sessions and open water dives. The first three days ( Monday - Wednesday) consists of classroom and pool sessions to learn the skills necessary to SCUBA dive. The last two days (Thursday & Friday) you will use your newly acquired SCUBA skills on your open water check-out dives.

After the completion of the course, participants will earn their Open Water SCUBA Certification (for those under 15 years old the certification will be a Jr. Open Water Diver).

Jr. divers must dive with someone 18 or older and are limited to 60 feet of depth. Once a Jr. diver reaches the age of 15 he or she can upgrade to an Open Water Diver by submitting a new photo and a small processing fee for the new card.

Age Requirements

SCUBA Camp is designed for kids ages 12 and older.
The minimum age for SCUBA certification is 10 years old, however our training agency limits
the student to instructor ratios for 10-11 year olds and 12-14 year olds.
Due to these ratio limitations,
certifications for 10 & 11 year olds can only be offered through private lessons.
For 12 - 14 year olds the maximum class size is 4 students per instructor.
To register, contact Jim’s Dive Shop at 727-393-3483. An orientation session will be scheduled with the student, parent or legal guardian and a member of Jim’s Dive Shop staff. At the orientation, we will issue the student kit and complete the student folder and paperwork for the course. During the orientation we will cover your personal gear, which the student must provide for the class (mask, fins, snorkel, weights, weight belt and dive boots). SCUBA is an equipment intensive sport and having proper, well fitting SCUBA gear is necessary in becoming a safe and competent diver. At Jim’s Dive Shop, we understand the show room may not be the perfect place to try gear so we will gladly exchange any purchases if the gear you have selected does not fit properly once you have tried it in the pool.

Orientations must be completed at least one week prior to the start of your course. This will give the stydent time to complete their textbook before the first day of class.
The course fee is $450.00 and includes: your student kit (textbook, dive tables and logbook),
use of our SCUBA tanks, regulators, buoyancy compensators and wetsuits and your open water SCUBA dives.

Students must have their own SCUBA quality mask, fins, snorkel, weights, weight belt and dive boots.
Students must provide their own snacks, lunch and drinks.

Students are responsible for their own transportation to the classroom, pool sessions and open water dives. Due to insurance limitations, Jim’s Dive Shop will not provide transportation.

At Jim’s Dive Shop, we feel that SCUBA is a family activity. Parents are welcome during the classroom and pool sessions and are encouraged to attend the open water SCUBA dives.
